Bolt Expands Operations In Kenya

Ride-hailing service, Bolt has announced that it is expanding into Kenya with a new offering – Bolt Lite. This new service aims to make rides more affordable to users in Nakuru and Kisumu.

Bolt expects this more affordably priced category will “increase the number of rides and decrease the time drivers spend waiting for the next order,” writes Gadgets Africa.

“We launched Bolt Lite in Nairobi in 2019 to give customers more options to choose from,” says Ola Akinnusi, Country Manager at Bolt.

“With Bolt, we can meet their dynamic needs while we continue to provide affordable and convenient transportation services to everyone. We have seen tremendous support from both our customers and drivers. We are looking into meeting the increasing demand from Kisumu and Nakuru for the same service.”

The ride-hailing service has also announced that will be taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of its drivers and passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic. It hopes to do this by introducing a new ride-type – Bolt Protect – which will ensure all vehicles are fitted with a protective nylon film that divides the passenger seats from the driver’s seat. This film will limit airflow between the driver and passengers, ultimately acting as a barrier.

Bolt to Introduce Food Delivery Service in Kenya

Bolt has announced that it is looking at introducing a food delivery service in Kenya.

“We’re already present in 30+ markets across Europe and Africa. Now, it’s time for us to bring the know-how around building a mobility platform to the food delivery industry,” says the company.

This is said to be Bolt’s attempt to add additional revenue streams by targeting an industry that has seen impressive growth in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
